The Boss GT-3 was a multi-effects processor released in 1998 that brought the COSM (Composite Object Sound Modeling) amp modeling from the higher-end GT-5 to a more compact and affordable floor unit. It is now discontinued.
Effects and processing
The GT-3 is built around its COSM technology, which models the sounds of vintage and modern amps, as well as providing speaker cabinet and microphone simulation.
Total effects: 32 effects can be combined in different signal chain combinations.
Analog distortions: The unit features 12 analog overdrive and distortion effects.
Dynamic and EQ effects: Compressor, limiter, equalizer, and noise suppressor.
Modulation and pitch effects: Harmonist, flanger, phaser, chorus (including a Bi-Stereo Chorus), tremolo, and pitch shifting. The expression pedal can be assigned to control modulation.
Time-based effects: Analog delay, digital delay, and reverb.
Unique effects:
Auto Riff: Triggers complete musical riffs from a single note.
Pickup Simulator: Mimics the tone of different pickups, such as turning a single-coil sound into a humbucker and vice versa.
Slicer and Feedbacker: Offers rhythmic and sustained sound effects.
Acoustic effects: Includes an acoustic-electric preamp and anti-feedback control for use with acoustic-electric guitars.
Controls and features
Patches: It has 200 preset patches and 140 user-writable patches.
Interface: A 16-character, 2-line backlit LCD makes patch names and parameters visible.
EZ Edit mode: This simplified mode allows for quick effect adjustments.
Control switches: Multiple foot switches offer real-time control during a live performance.
Expression pedal: An integrated expression pedal is available for dynamic parameter control.
Connectivity and electronics
Audio connectivity:
Input: 1/4" unbalanced input.
Outputs: Left (Mono) and Right 1/4" outputs for stereo use.
Headphones: A 1/4" headphone jack is included for silent practice.
External control:
Effects Loop: An external send and return loop allows the user to place other effects pedals into the GT-3's signal chain.
