The Digitech Whammy pedal from 2004 was the Whammy 4 (WH-4), produced between 2004 and 2011. It was known for its monophonic pitch-shifting that could produce a glitchy, vintage digital sound. The pedal has a durable, red metal chassis and an integrated expression pedal for dynamic control.
Features and effects
Pitch-shifting modes
A rotary knob is used to select from 18 pitch-shifting options.
Whammy: This mode removes the dry signal and lets you use the expression pedal to bend notes up or down.
Harmony: This mode mixes your original signal with a harmonized note. The expression pedal bends the harmonized note between two preset intervals.
Detune: This mode adds a detuned signal for a subtle chorus or vibrato effect. The expression pedal controls the amount of the detuned signal.
Other features
MIDI input: Allows for external control of the pedal.
Power: Requires a dedicated 9V AC power supply. This is a key difference from the newer Whammy 5, which uses a standard 9V DC supply.
Bypass: Features a buffered bypass, not a true bypass, which can color your tone when the effect is off.
