Sustainiac circuit sorcery and ferocious Fishman firepower
Without seeing as much firsthand, you’d be forgiven for attributing the PT SLS Elite’s versatility to some sort of sonic sorcery. However, its transcendent tone-crafting tools owe to a dyad of music mages: Fishman and Sustainiac. Thanks to a pair of out-of-the-way mini switches, the neck-mounted Sustainiac grants access to myriad modes of musicality, from (literally) endless sustain to shimmering, kaleidoscopic harmonics, toeing the boundary of surreal, multihued sound shaping.
At the bridge, an active Fishman Fluence Open Core Modern humbucker calls forth a tone-crafting triptych of ceramic-magnet sonics: active, passive, and single-coil styles. The push-pull Tone knob manages the first two voices, with Voice 1 delivering laser-tight, searing tones and a clear, crisp growl that you want out of a modern, active humbucker. Voice 2, on the other hand, is Fishman’s passive attack-focused option, preserving the organic, foundational tones of the PT with plenty of headroom that doesn’t cost its dynamism, responsiveness, or ability to retain as much when the gain is cranked. Fishman’s Voice 3 — the single-coil voice — is activated via the Volume knob, adding an S-style chime that’s crystal clear, bright, and impeccably articulate.
